Where Did He Go?

"He was smart to get out," you say.

She frowns at the fax. "He says if we had 'half a wit' we would know exactly where he went. But I must confess it means naught-all to me." Her face brightens. "Let's ask William."

You clatter up the gangway, into the sunshine. "What is it then, eh?" William asks, hanging up the handset. Claudia hands him the fax. He reads it out loud.

"13 Feb 1834. I respectfully notify my Captain and shipmates that I have parted company. I am aware of the seriousness of my act and accept full responsibility.

I have only taken enough food for two months, an ax, one rifle, and one of the sledges. I say this honestly, I am not scheming to deprive others of their share.

If any one person in the expedition wishes to join me, they may do so. If they have half a wit left, they will know where I have gone. But I frankly doubt that this is the case.

--Terrible Harding
    Lieutenant, Royal Navy."

"So where did he go?" she asks.

"Isn't it obvious?" he replies.
