THE PARK'S
OPENING
CELEBRATION

Q. Did
the North Willow Glen Neighborhood Association have anything to do with
the new Hummingbird Park, the park for young kids at Bird and Fisk Avenues?
A. Yes - although most of the credit for
the park goes to dedicated volunteers in the neighborhood. Mark Johnson,
a resident many years ago, kicked things off by persuading the city
to landscape what was then a vacant lot. Since then a number of volunteers
from all over the NWGNA have worked to maintain the landscaping and
keep the lot clean. Their efforts on this issue led to the city's decision
to make the lot into a "pocket park." NWGNA members also took
the lead in designing the park, led by Renee Erez, then a neighbor on
Coe. Hummingbird Park opened in February 2003, and is our neighborhood's
first shared public space.
