Push on Code Enforcement
Ongoing in 2004
by Keen R. Acktup
January 2006

At our request, Code Enforcement does periodic "drive-by" inspections of our neighborhood.

The officers look for blight and other violations and will cite the homeowners.

If your quality of life is suffering
because a neighbor or someone on your street is violating city Code, call Code today: 277-4528. BE SURE TO SAY THAT YOU ARE IN "THE GREATER GARDNER SNI AREA." Code officers will pay special attention to SNI addresses that have received complaints. You should call even if you believe someone else has already called, because your call will add emphasis.

That number again: 277-4528.

Common code problems include
people who create noise, smells, and fumes because they are operating businesses out of their homes or back yards; people who create health hazards because they are operating businesses out of their homes or back yards; people who create parking problems because they are operating businesses out of their homes or back yards; people who have unsightly front yards, have junk visible from the street, or park cars on grass or dirt; people who create noise, crowding or parking problems because they rent out illegal second units; people who store cars, boats, or anything else on the street.

The most common code problem are automotive businesses being conducted out of a residence. These businesses are illegal and lower the quality of life for their neighbors.

"Live and let live" --
only up to a point.

Don't let your life be miserable or your health threatened by a neighbor. Call Code Enforcement and see if they can help you. All complaints are treated confidentially.

The neighborhood association does not itself file code complaints and doesn't take sides in code disputes. It does, however, help get the City to resolve code complaints (one way or the other). We'd like to thank Tony Filice of Ken Yeager's office for helping us focus City efforts to resolve code issues in North Willow Glen.
